Образы варваров в римской визуальной культуре эпохи Антонинов: проблема иконографического анализа

Аннотация

Дискуссия об основных характеристиках визуальной ­презентации варвара в эпоху Антонинов является крайне актуальной среди историков античности, однако она часто ограничена сопоставлением изображений с текстами античных авторов и поверхностным иконографическим анализом. Варвар — «другой», негативная модель, с помощью которой римлянин описывал самого себя и формулировал свои ценности. В статье мы пытаемся не только суммировать ряд последних трактовок образа «другого», но и предложить семиотический подход к ­каждому уровню его конструирования в римском искусстве II века. Варвар, его среда обитания, портретные характеристики — знаки, работающие на нескольких семиотических регистрах. Последовательная интерпретация знаков на каждом регистре позволит уточнить специфику презентации варвара в эпоху Антонинов.
